I went down to the hardware store and was lookin at the wormers. The lady in there told me all the guys that came in there got horse wormer paste for their huntin dogs. Well ive heard of people doin that but she said it takes care of heart worms as well. Do any of you no about that. She said it takes care of every worm. If so that sounds like the way to go, but heart worms are my biggest question about.

i think it depends on the kind, it will probably have to ivomec in it to prevent heartworms

I use the Horse wormer called Paraneal Palamate to worm mine,it takes care of most the worms other than the heart worms and the injection ivomec to worm for the heart worms. I give each dog a dose the size of a peanut seed or so.

i use equimax horse paste- give each hound a fingernail size amount-then in 21 days give it to them again to get the new hatch- this wormer has ivomec in it so u don't have to use ivomec the month u give the paste-i use this twice a year and ivomec once a month-

Or you can use zimectin gold for horses. It has ivomec and Pyrantel (for tapeworms)

from my looking around it looks to me pyrantel pamoate is good for rounds and hook but you need praziquantel for tapes

pyrantel doesn't take care of tapes, it DOES get the majority of other worms, whips are not controlled by it either. You can order liquid wormer (horse or cattle variety) from many of the vet supply places online. Jeffers, Valley Vet etc.
Ivermectin in the horse wormers will control heartworms, read the other ingredients for better worming options...you'll likely find you'll need another wormer for your dogs.

I use 3 different things, ivomec monthly, strongid liquid quarterly and synanthic (which is backordered right now) or Valbazen 3 days in a row when I can't get the Synanthic - alternating quarters. all liquid.
SO....every month - ivomec for HW prevention, Jan, April, July and October I add one or the other of the above. LOL it's probably a bit over-kill but I'm much rather feed my dog than a worm IN my dog.
Strongid (Pyrantel Paomate) - rids them of a majority of parasites. Does NOT get whips or tapes.
Synantic/Valbazen - given 3 days in a row, kills pretty much all intestinal worms, INCLUDING whips and tapes. (The key to tapes is good flea control - but they happen on occasion)
Ivomec - monthly for HW prevention
