may try me 1 of them.probably alot better than my radar collars the garmin is by far the most useful system i have ever used.... but you do lose a lot of your range that you have with regular tracking collars. you can put a long range hand held antenna and double your range though... it costs about $75 brandon

what kinda range does it have from the factory without the hand held antenna. It varies. Any where from .8 miles to 2 miles depending on conditions...

why does the collars lose signal sometimes. Will this be fixed with the long ranged hand held antenna? I loved my the other day when i went to the foxpen but it did lose signal once. 1-2 miles of range isn't very good. Mike

My DC20's lose GPS lock fairly regular, but usually get it back pretty quickly. My 30's very rarely lose GPS lock. The couple of times they have it was just for a few seconds and then it picked up again. If it's the collar losing signal, the Long range antenna has no bearing on that.

i just bought the long range antenna from www.gpscity.com for $44.00 and then with next day shipping it came out to $54.00 I hooked it up today and got 2.35 miles on one collar and that was in town. My question to anyone is this: Would the all the powerlines and tin roofs and stuff affect the range since i tried it in town. I am pleased with the range but was honestly hoping for 3-4 miles with the long range antenna. Let me know what you think Mike

From what I hear, folks don't ever get the super long range we are familiar with on Q-track etc. Most are running both types collar and using the Q-track if the dog gets too far gone. For the most part if you can quickly get to last spot the dogs marked then they are back on the unit. One day I will be able to have a garmin... ONE DAY... Brent

I bought a garmin right after season.I have used it alot since then on puppies, and love it.Just bought 2 more collars for a total of 4. I used it in thick flatwoods and got 1.4 miles with the rubber antena before it blipped the first time. Then I put on the long range antena, and got 2.9 miles until the first blip.Honestly, my Quick track w/wildlife collars doesn't get much, if any, better.A place I train w/open woods and alot of hills gets less range w/ the garmin, but better with the quick. It seems that the thick effects the Quick more, and the hills effect the Garmin more. The down side to the garmin is battery life(17 hours),I will still back up with the Quick. The upside is you can see where they jumped that buck.Or a crossing in the woods that nobody else knows about.I can't wait to use it during season.
