Last winter my best friend came up from TX and we cut Snake, Molly, Jim, PoBoy, Dan, Hambone, lose on some gov land, about 430am , dogs milled around for about an hr, then struck, hard. Snake took the lead with PoBoy following close by. The race was on they ran it for about 5 hrs swim the river, we drove 18 miles around to them, had to walk about 4 miles to get near them , by that time dogs, bob had swim the river back across to where we started. Mike and I drove back 18 miles, jump the 4wheelers off the trailer, rode as fast as we could, stoping every now and then to listen and get the tracker out. When we finally got to the dogs we only had 3 dogs there Snake , Molly, Hambone, the bob was in the tree just before dusk, we shot the bob out , leashed the dogs we had carryed them back to the truck, got out the tracker to find the 3 missing dogs. It took us all night to find the rest, 2 were on the other side, 18 miles around again, the last was found near daylight, old Dan was dead guess he just ran him self to death. That was a hunt to remember.

Had a good race tonight , only lasted about 1 hr. I took my plott pup Jack out late this afternoon, just to excerise , he struck about dark and ran a bob for about an hr , bob went treed next to a beaver pond, I will post pictures tomarrow, shot the bob out, it was half grown, still had some life in it, Jack was on it about as fast as it hit the ground, had a good fight for about 1 minute, I was very proud of Jack he has been in on 5 bob races start to finish but this is his 1st one to start and finish by him self. Here is the little kitty I got late yestarday afternoon Here is a picture of the young plott that treed the bob

probably one of my favorite stories is told by my now gone hunting friend, Don, he had what was for him a record setter...and one I have yet to top..5 bobcats all in under one hour! Don hunted cats from 1938 until his death a few years ago, except for the winters of 1944-45 when he was in WWII. This photo of he and brother Ray with Effie and King, is Feb 1956, five cats from 4:22pm to just before 5PM...that's some hot shooting, and $50 bounty money to boot. He killed 52 that year with his best hound Effie, which for that part of the country is pretty darn good. That is a good time, except for on the cats' part that is....today in that same area you are lucky to see 5 all year, decreased habitat and increased Fisher, Coyote and other predator numbers combined with hunters and trappers killing every cat they can (some as small as 10 pounds and mothers with kittens) have decreased the spotted cats to the point where less than 70 are killed in that entire state hunting and trapping combined...

aintdeadyet- thats quite a story with a picture to boot! Thats a good day! Here in wi we have to send in for tags, takes 3-4 years to draw a tag. I'll be heading back up north on fri. to try run a cat, our group still has a couple of tags, hopefully we will get some fresh tracking snow.

Had a pretty good sat. (last day), are group harvested 2 cats, and only 1 tag went unfilled. Both were between 25 and 30 lbs. Had some fresh tracking snow and the dogs ran fantastic! They stayed on the heels of both cats! All and all very good weekend!
