I have a 1 year old Walker that will go with a Race but seems that he doesn't open. Is there anything that I can do to correct this? I would hate to get rid of him because he is a fast hound and great temperament.

I hate to tell you this poor boy, but I have posted this same question on multiple occasions with no legitimate responses. I have dog hunted for over 50 years and have yet to find the cure. If it is a young dog, he may come out of it, but if he does not, save your dog food and frustration. I've had dogs that open good in the pack, but if they get out front they shut up and will screw up your race. I've got one right now that is 3 years old and has done that to me twice this season after running good all this time. Good mouth, good nose, and fast, but if she continues she will not be long for this world. These are usually dogs that will trail and not open until the deer is about jumped. I do not believe in giving these dogs away. It just makes for hard feelings and there is a chance the genes will get pasted on. I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but many times I have wished I would have listened to my own advise.
If you like, you can go back to one of my previous posts and see if there is any responses that help you. I have asked this question on this web site also.
