Have a beagle/walker that has a health problem I have not seen in my 50 years of dog hunting. Thought maybe someone has run in to this.
Gyp is about 3 years old and after Matthew blew threw I noticed her eyes were looking strange. Like they were trying to roll back in the sockets. Ears were drawn up toward the top of her head making her look like a fiste. Her muscles tightened up all over her body to the point her legs are rigid and she can hardly open her mouth. she does not seem to be in any pain other than the fact her skin is so tight it's like it is stretched over a board.
Looked on the internet. best I could find was possibly a meningitis of some kind?
Tried a shot of penicillin to no avail. Been letting her out of the pen and the mussels seem to loosen up some, but not much.
Has anybody seen this in one of their dogs and found out what it is?

Is there any chance she has been poisoned?

I don't believe so. She had not been out of the pen to get a hold of any poison. She seems to be getting better very slowly or that could be my wishful thinking. I do appreciate you thinking about it and offering a suggestion. I had thrown in some deer legs from deer I killed bow season, but I gave them to all my dogs. She did get a sore foot for a while. I attributed that to a bite from another dog I had in with her during the hurricane. that is why I gave her a shot of penicillin. I thought it could be some type of infection from that.I also thought it might be some sort of deviation of tick fever, but found no ticks on her. Thanks for the suggestion Gunsliger

I would give her another shot of penicillin it won't hurt her. I would also give her a dose of Benadryl just in case she was stung or has been bit by something you don't know about. I spent a week in the hospital over a spider bite once took me a month to get well.

That's probably a good suggestion.
Thanks

I have. Some beagles carry a trait that causes them to have seizures. I use to have a male dog that would do it. I would just let it run its course and he would be fine a little bit later.

Did get better after a couple of months. I let her out of the pen to run loose for a while. That seamed to help loosen her muscles, but I never figured what had all her muscles so tight. Legs where stiff as a board, her head skin was so tight she looked like a fiest with her ears drawn up and together. Never saw anything like it. Just glad she came out of it. Thanks for asking Gunslinger.
