Ole Luke is gone but not forgotten. Pound for pound he was the best deer dog i ever had with his daughter comming in at a close 2nd. What made him so good was he could do it all. And would come back to where he was turned out if the deer wasnt killed. I could also tell by the tone of his voice if he was running a doe or a buck. If he was on a buck he had a growl to his voice. And if you turned the dogs loose on a buck. And he split from the pack he was on the buck. But i never could make the group understand this. They wanted to head off the pack . while i was left trying to cut off the buck by my self. Of course most times i lost lol... Ive seen young dogs run off ahead of him. Then get to water or something and shut up. And when he got to where they stopped he never missed a beat. Just kept on running showing the pack the way. And the race was on again. I still miss him.
