Port Albert is a small town in Gippsland area of Victoria, We were lucky enough to have a day out fishing on saturday 6 of us in 2 boats The sun hadn't been up long as we headed out and as you can see the water was flat and the day fine We went past some of the islands that shelter the Port from the ocean and give good fishing in the channels Photo courtesy of Doug Read Hog deer inhabit the islands and surrounding areas on the mainland and is about the only place to hunt Hog deer on public land in the world After a short trip , we were wetting some lines, Brett , Rod and his son Robert in Bretts boat, Brett has all the experience down in these waters and promised to show us how, when & where to get the flathead We had fished for a few hours and it was going slowly, then Brett says time to go to this spot as the tide is right We moved out of the channels & gutters to shallower waters Sure enough ,soon we were getting fish and plenty of them Trenny with one of his good sized flathead He also caught a Banjo shark but they are protected and have to go back in After a couple hours in our spot the fish had moved on and it was time to go home We live 3 and a bit hours drive away, Back to the Port , had a couple quick beers and off home The days catch waiting to be filleted All in all , a top but long day out

That's an unusual looking fish there Kiwi. They look similar to our lizardfish on the grass flats.
