Six Pack of Yellow Hounds
Today I was back out in the Jackson County Swamp in search of bunnies. Can I call this hunting when all I carried was a stick to beat down the briers and help an old many stay upright. After a half-mile stroll I arrived at a place that Mr. Goff told me all about. Me and six of my best yellow (L&W) hounds spent the next 90 minutes jumping and running six or seven bunnies in the cane thicket that Mr. G had directed me to.
At one point we were hunting the edge of a slough when I heard a big splash and then another splash. It only took me one or two heart beats to realize what caused the big splashes. I put down the camera and reached for both E-Collar Transmitters just as two deer (1 Big Doe & a Yearling) came up out of the other side of the slough. That was then that one of my trusted hounds opened in full cry. Lucy hit the water and shot out the others side of the slough right where the deer had gone. I turned the transmitter up to full power and rolled her up. Only one of my six hounds did wrong. The other five hounds were right there to see what happens when a hound decides to run a deer. I called Lucy and she came in to me with here tail tight between her legs. Just as she got to me, another of my hounds jumped a bunny. Lucy joined the pack for another good run.
Shame on You Lucy
These hounds made a lot of noise today. They ran one bunny right over me, while I was busy putting batteries in my GPS. This would have been a great picture or video. I missed a number of great jumps today but I captured many others. We ended up running 12 or more bunnies today. I ended up walking just under four miles but it was worth every step.
I will add a You Tube video here soon to share some of today’s action….. I am glad to finally be finding some bunnies. I may even bring a gun my next time out.
