Hey folks, I haven't dog hunted in YEARS, Now I've got a couple of cur pups I want to train.. I'm wanting to catch some squirrels to help with training them.. Problem is I can't get one in a trap.. I've tried different types of nuts ,candies and what not and still ain't got one... Does anyone here have a good idea or some kind of trick that they use A guy told me yesterday to start feeding sunflower seeds, then set a trap as they get comfortable eating there in that spot. I have some good bred pups and 1 BMC that I'm hoping to make squirrel dogs out of... So thanks for any and all ideas that ya'll send me... THANKS and GOD Bless ya'll

I to am training a cur pup to tree squirrels. I havn't used a caged squirrel for training, what I have done is gotten a dead squirrel wet it real good, put the pup somewhere he/she can't see you drag the squirrel through the yard. Drag the squirrel through the yard rub squirrel on the base of the tree then hang it. Let your pup out and let him scent trail to the tree and if he finds it and doesn't bark encourage him to bark. Don't expect to much from a young pup he/she may or may not bark the first time, if they are breed right there natural ability will come out in time. Take them to the woods, take them to the woods, take them to the woods, then take them to the woods! My pup is 4 months old and is doing good. He is out of Shilohs Dell x Stillwaters Hotrod. He has treed a dead Squirrel and now I am spending alot of woods time. Here is a short clip of Petey on tree at 4 months. Pistol Pete www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIRLXsSu90U
