This morning, 11 month old Snoopy and I were out for another walk behind my house. It was cool, but not cool enough for long sleeves or gloves. I sure would like to see my breath.
We were walking a trail through a maze of Gaul berries when I heard something big get up and move out some 100 feet away. I could see the Gaul berries parting as Mr. Big tried to slip away unnoticed. I was sure this had to be a deer and decided to take this opportunity for Snoopy to learn a lesson.
I "Chipped" a few times and headed off in the direction the deer had gone. Snoopy circled wide and picked up the sent some 200 feet ahead of me. I let him get into full cry and travel 100 yards before I rolled him up. He went from full cry in hot pursuit to full scream. I held the transmitter down for what seemed to be a long five seconds. When I let up, Snoopy went quite. I called and he headed in.
Snoopy is a smart hound and I do not think it will take many times running deer and being punished with the E-Collar to break him from running trash....

I have used the Oak Branch method in days gone by, but I am way to old to chase a hound down and give him a thrashing... My hounds start wearing the E-Collar at age 6 months and they never are put down for a run without it. I just have to stay alert, catch them in the act and nail them hard.
