Ran my dogs friday night, turned loose at 8 that afternoon, they ran hard till 12:00 then broke down, didn't get to catch them all and had to go came back the next morning at 9 and they were running in this heat. Finnally caught them up at 3:00, it was extremly hot, they were stove up as i exspected with front and back legs raw, Now my best dog that I took is DEHYDRATED can't even get up to get water I put her in the screened in porch with a fan on her and am giving her Pedialyte every 4 hours, ANYTHING ELSE I CAN DO?

the next time take the pedialyte and hold the skin up on her back and use a syringe with a needle and shoot 12 to 15 cc's of the pedialyte under the skin 2 or 3 times a day til they start drinkin.. i pulled one thru parvo like that recently , i did it for 2 days and by the end of the second day she was drinkin water and the next day she started eating and she is fine ..i had 2 other pups that had it right before her and took them to the vet , i used the meds the vet gave me and did ever thing they told me to do and lost both of them, an old dog man told me bout the injecting the pedialyte, when you do it it makes a big lump under the skin but it goes away pretty quick... sorry bout your loss

Sorry to hear that. Dang it seems like it is always the ones that you hate to lose the most that something happens to.

I hope there wont be a next time but I appreciate the info, my cousin also lost his best dog too, she was out of the one I lost, they died the same day. I videoed the running, more audio than anything but I'm gonna make a you tube video of it, since it was Kate and Daisy's last run.

I know this is a little late but just saw the thread and wanted to add my .02. i field trial fox/coyote dogs for 4, 5 or more hours in the 95 plus degree heat. whenever i run in the summer i put powder horse electrolytes in the water for a few days before i run them and ALWAYS keep electrolyte paste in my truck as well as a bucket in there with powder electrolyte and water. makes a huge difference. i had one of my older males fall out at a field trial a few months back to the point his eyes rolled back in his head he got stiff as a board and couldnt move. i really thought he was gone. i gave him about half a tube of electrolytes in his mouth/throat and then i just started rubbing his feet and legs with water. after about 10 min of that he started coming back a little so i put him in a shallow pool of cool not cold water that maybe came up halfway up his legs and just kinda splashed water every so often over him. He pulled threw and was back to him self in about a day. Just my .02. hope this helps in the future if it ever happens again
