I'm 50 years old and was in my late teens when the CB craze was at it's height in the late 1970's.
During that period I had a CB in every vehicle I ever owned, including a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am.
No it wasn't black and gold like the "Bandit's", it was white and red.
I haven't seen or used a CB since the early 1980's so I'd like to know how popular CB's are today?
If my memory is not totally Alzheimered out, I believe the brands I owned were Cobra, Midland and Motorola.
Do those companies still make CB's?
One of the few times I needed to use one while hunting, I was unable to get any response from any of the channel's.
My friend got his truck stuck and my truck couldn't get him unstuck and I used that dad gum thing for almost an hour and couldn't get a response.
Had to walk three miles back to the main road and another three to the nearest gas station.
Thankfully this was back in the days of FULL service gas stations and they had a wrecker to tow my buddy out.
What are the laws regarding CB use today in regards to hunting. Don't some state's have a law making them illegal to use when trailing dogs?
I thought I read somewhere Georgia did.
Are CB's more trustworthy than cell phone's?

Can't answer all of the questions . But I FINALLY finished getting one mounted on my wheeler . Headed over to a guy's house now to get the swr's checked . I have procrastinated for 6 months . I too used a CB back in the days . In some areas we hunt we can't get cellular service so we are going to start using CB's . I listened to the skip yesterday and there seemed to be a lot of traffic . Heard guys from Michigan , Philadelphia to Georgia and along the east coast .

yah man get a cobra. i run one on our mule, my truck and my buddies got one at our camp.. But ya everyday after skool i leave a little later than jantz so he lets me know where the cops are on the way home (over the cb) and before he got his cb our phone wouldnt work there.. sooo ya in place they are more reliable. But my advice would be, takes both a cell phone and get a cb too. Hope i helped.

Cb radios are still used here by truckers and some hunting crews but most have been replaced by commercial (ham) radios with private use channels because their range is better and the skip is minimized. 5 yrs ago when we hunted on cb channels (even low channels) the skip was so bad from south florida we couldn't communicate well enough to hunt.
Florida doesn't have any law you're referring to.
I trust my cell phone more than a cb except during dog season. I have 12-15 channels in my radio and I know I can get ahold of someone in the woods then. Our cell phone service is good in the woods though on my club.

There not around as much as they used to be. The marine radios havnt taken over down here where we are at. I won't go to one for the simple fact it would be another radio to buy and I can talk as all over 50,000 acres. As far as the cobra don't buy one the new ones are junk!!! When uniden stop making them they went to crap! Midland still makes cb's but they also are pretty much junk. If you are wanting one go with a galaxy export, and you don't need the big exports to talk all over the place(meaning the ones with built in amps) personal I wouldn't own one of the big export radios. I can take a reg. Export and shut one of them down. Hope this helps if you have any questions about cb ask I have been into them for along time.
