Boating for Bunnies up Big Slough
I spent this cool day on another solo hunt in the Jackson County Swamp. The hounds and I made our way up Big Slough in search of another little known spot that Mr. G had shared with me. Our first stop of the day was in the canes.
This area was infested with bunnies. My little hounds ran six or more bunnies and never got more than 100 yards from the boat. One race passed so close to the boat that one little gyp (Maggie) got bumped off the bank and landed in the boat. She ran the length of the boat and rejoined the race. I did manage to bag my one bunny before leaving this area.
Turn up the volume to hear the sounds of the CANES.
A short but cold boat ride on up Big Slough took us to our next adventure in the swamp.
Trying to live up to the reputation of my mentor, Mr. G, I built a fire and had coffee before letting the hounds out of their warm box.
This was another great day to spend in the swamp with my hounds.
When I got home, I had to let Pumpkin’s pup take a close look at the bunny before cleaning it.
This pup is a keeper. His name is to be “Paw Paw’s Super Snooper Snoopy”
Pouncing on a bunny makes a puppy hungry. Here is Snoopy with the other pups with one of there first times to feed from a pan.
I mixed up a tasty gruel for the pups. It is made up of canned puppy pedigree, powdered calf’s milk, baby cereal and cottage cheese. This was all mixed in a blender with warm water. They seemed to like it. Snoopy is the one that is in the pan. They do make a mess. They eat a little out of the pan then spent time licking it off of each other. Their mothers had the job of getting them all cleaned up.
We are running way behind last years numbers. One bunny at a time we are doing what we can and loving every trip.
Bunnies bagged by the Caincutter Crew this season:
Caincutter 23, Billy 6, Jon 2, Mr. Goff 6, Eddie 1, Tony W.1, Steven 3, Greg 1 .
Total: 43.
