ok. first off im gonna say that antenna is everything. before i touched that radio i would upgrade your antenna to either a steel whip or if a whip aint your thing then a wilson mag mount. what ever you choose get your swrs down. and after you do that then i would start upgrading your radio and stuff down the road. antenna is everything bo.

8ft. buy it from radio shack. if you dont like that idea. a wilson magnetic will also be a decent antenna. but what ever antenna you get make sure your swrs are very very low. like 1.1 to 1.3

You can do a cap mod to that radio and make that thing talk!! Don't let no one screw you on doing it. It doesn't cost 60 or 80 bucks to have it done. If you can't find anyone to do it any cheaper I'd leave it alone.

It is what they do to the radio to get it to swing a lot more than stock. There is a jumper right infront of the final that you pull out and stick a 220uf 16volt cap in and a resistor on the back side and she will swing like crazy!!! Just don't let know one talk you into paying a lot of money to have a cap mod or swing kit or what ever they want to call it. It coat them if they change the final when they do it about 10 bucks in parts and about 10 mins of time. If they don't change the final and just do the cap mod it takes maybe 5 mins to do and cost them maybe 3 bucks. And there are guys out there that will charge you 100 bucks to do that mod and tell you your radio will do 60 watts and so on and they are so full of crap, the only way that radio is going to do 60watts is with a stinger board or an amp!!!

asked a local guy bout it
quote"A peak and tune for the cobra 25 runs $25 as long as the radio has not been touched internally. The swing kit I install is real and you can actually see the results unlike allot of the other cb shops around. It consist of the final transistor being replaced (same as galaxy final), cap, variable resistor are added then radio is re-tuned. This also allows you to adjust the carrier so you can run an amplifier if needed. This runs $65 if the radio has not been touched internally. Thanks for the email! Feel free to give me a call with any ?s. "quote
what ya think?

Sounds like a bit much to do it. But I've seen guys charge a lot more than that. If he is really doing what he says I guess it isn't to bad. One thing you have to think about is that you have x dollars that you payed for the radio and now you are going to sink another 65 into and unless you got the radio for free it isn't worth that much.
