It resembles a Fire Stix . Not for sure what it is . I'll try to find a name on it . It is mounted on a spring . All I can tell you is it's a black fiberglass . I hunt in a lot of thick brush and need something that won't break . Will try to get more info on the set up tonight . Thanks for the reply .

ok. run a piece of coax from the back of the radio to the meter. then from the meter to the antenna. turn the radio on and key the mic. do not talk into it. do this on channel 1, channel 20 and channel 40 and tell me what it says and we will go from there

Even with a 102 steel whip you still have to make sure you have low swr or you will burn up some finals!!!

Even with a 102 steel whip you still have to make sure you have low swr or you will burn up some finals!!! I was just going by what the guy at the CB shop told me.When I had my CB and lenar matched up I asked him to check my SWR's to.He took one look at my truck and said your running a 102 inch steel whip..You don't have to worry about your SWR's.. Now you got me wondering if he just didn't want to mess with it.. But that was 3 years ago and I'm still running the same set up..So I guess it will be ok..

99 percent of the time if you have a steel whip with a spring and 18ft of coax you will be good, but it is still a very good idea to check it. I have seen brand new coax be bad!! And that will cause a lot of problems. I always check mine with my mfj analizer. Much better than checking it with the old power/swr meter. When you check it that way unless you leave the swr meter inline you are not getting a true reading as after you check it you take the meter and jumper out and it will then change. With the mfj you screw the coax that you would screw into the radio into the mfj and dial in the freq. And it gives you a digital read out of what your true swr are. Since I started using the mfj my radios have never sounded better!!!!!
