Paw Paw’s OB Ward: Here is Lucy when she is between 42 and 45 days bred. She is really starting to show some growth. That sway in her back is a sign that she is going to have us some pups. She is normally slim and trim and to me she is getting big. Just last year about this time, after two weeks lost in the swamp, she was just hide and bones. Just look at her now. All nice and round and glowing with motherhood. This is her first litter and her udders are starting to fill out. In a few short weeks Lucy will find out what them tits are for. In 20 or less days this young hound will be the proud mother of yet another generation of Caincutter hounds. You Go Girl! Pumpkin has been down this road before and I am sure she knows what will soon happen. I must admit that I was just a bit aggressive when it came time to dock Pumpkin’s tail. I got her when she was 10 weeks old and used a band to take off her tail. I am much better with 2 day old pups and a razor knife. As I remember from last time the longer she goes, the shorted her tail gets. When it gets down to about 2 inches she will have the pups. Always before, I have wondered when they would be born, how many, how many boys and how many girls. This time I am wondering which one will pop first. Let the fun begin!!!!!!!!

I dock tails so these hounds can hunt the tuff briers here in South Mississippi, without getting tails ripped up. Pups that are docked at 2 days old end up with tails about like the first hound above (Lucy). I take off just enough to allow them to miss the baddest of the briers.
