Yesterday morning, Foulplay and I rolled out early for a little fun in the woods.....I (as usual) was up and at'em a little later than I intended, so we were jumping in the truck before I had a good chance to think of a few things I wanted to take - MY CAMERA was on the charger in the house!
We arrived at the breakfast table just in time for Brownie to be pulling fried eggs off of the hot stove. After getting a belly full, we put on hunting vests and orange and headed to the lake for some rabbit hunting fun. Once again, Milton Green and his pack of rolling thunder was the hunt master. The hounds were cast, in just a few minutes, we hear the strike...and that pack of beagles had the rabbit on the move.
I'm standing next to a pine tree in the pine plantation we were hunting and what do I see? Hereeeeeeeeee he comes - well, has anyone ever told you, don't try to move over a bit for a better shot? I turned the rabbit back into a briar patch without getting a shot....one by one, the bad to the bone pack of roaring hounds come rolling through still in hot pursuit....around and around the rabbit takes them on a merry chase before he comes BACK up the lane I'd seen him on earlier, but I'd moved over for a clearer spot, ONCE AGAIN, I turn the bunny but right to foulplay he goes and that race is over. Off through the woods go that pack of tiny dynamo's and soon, they've got another bunny up and running....guess where he goes? RIGHT to Foulplay AGAIN (Did I mention he was standing in the spot I'd vacated?!) another race finished.
There were a few more races, only 1 more ending with the bunny in the bag. The last race, Milton kept saying "Get ready Tori, here he comes (by this time I was on the back of the truck with it parked in the turnaround by the creek - I'd had about all the standing and waiting I could handle for the morning - 4 weeks post surgery is fine, but there ARE limits) "He's gonna pop out right here" - and he did with a pack of thunder right on his little furry tail..... Arvell got 2 shots off after the bunny crossed the road but jcross was too busy trying to get lined up... 'round through the bottom they go, and hereeeeeeee he comes again, I'm standing there so I can see up the ditch and across the artesian well road, and bless pete he picked the road! Did jcross get a shot off? HECK NAW - he looked like an atomic missle flashing across the road! LOL
I can say of the 6 bunnies set to run yesterday, I saw 4 - doesn't that count for SOMETHING?
