I had a rough night last night a the foxpen. My puppies got on a bad hog and two of them got cut down. A 24 hr vet bill and regular vet bill later my wallet's a good bit lighter. The worst one is my 4 month old lemon puppy that is already running like a little champ. I will post some pics of the wound. I really thought she was a goner. She got poked right behind her front shoulder and was pouring out blood. I got her to a vet who got the bleeding stopped, got her ribs that were broke set as well as possible and sewed her up. I am giving her two different types of antibiotics. Due to it being a deep chest wound, the vet could not put a drain on it as it need to stay closed. She is now getting fluid build up under the wound. How do I remove this or will it finally stop? I really really really do not want another vet bill. Could I suck it out with a hypodermic? Is it hurting anything? She weighs 16 lbs. for reference. Thanks guys. Here are a couple of pics:

I'd have a heart attack with pups that young getting whacked on! YYYYYYYEEEEEEEIKES!
Anyway, I'm afraid I would have insisted on a small drain. You can make a "sauce" with vinegar and alcohol that will help draw down the fluid build up, 1 c vinegar in saucepan brought to a boil....turn off heat, add 1 cup alcohol. Soak a hand towel in the mixture until it's cooled enough to handle (will be a lot faster than you'd think) hold to the swollen/distended place until cooled. That will help but probably won't draw out all of the swelling.
Bless her little bones, that's a rough lick for a pup that small.

man thats a terrible wound for such a young'un........ i would have to agree with jcross that needed a drain, hog cuts are nasty and make alot of fluid........., hope she makes it....
guess she'll leave the hog huntin for the big dogs after that run in..
let us know how she does

10-4 I hope she can pull out and she will still hunt. If you have a good relationship with your vet you could call and ask for advice hopefully without a bill. Good luck

Our vet did that with Joe and Radar. I would call the vet and describe what is going on and ask if maybe the vet can lance it or something. Or advise you.

A cut of that magnatude should have had a place to drain . You may want to find another vet . If it keeps swelling I'd lance it .
