As youv probably seen I have decided to sell all my deer dogs and get somemore beagles to rabbit hunt with. I had some not long ago and sold out and ive regreted it eversince. A guy called me from down in south carolina (no one from this web site) and said he had a couple rabbit dogs he would trade me. I talked with him some about them and said ok that sounds good. We made plans to meet the next day and make the trade. He called me the next evening and said he was ready, I said ok. Well while I was on the phone with him I asked if he had ever had a problem with them runing deer and he said no. Well I was walking out the door as I was talking to him and he said " No they wont run a deer but the male is very fast. So fast you will think hes runing a deer." Then he let out a little chuckle and said, " He a big dog" I said oh hes 15 inch, thats fine thats the size I was runing when I sold out. Thats when he said somthing that amazed me. " No hes bigger than 15 inch" I said well he aint a beagle then. "No hes a beagle walker" . I couldnt beleive it. I had to politely decline the trade. I would have been very upset if I would have went all that way and he pulled a beagle walker out of his box. I quess it would have been my fault though. I didnt specify beagle to him I quess. I dont no, it just amazed me.

I dont necessarily like big beagles, but my two best are both 16 and a half inches and they are both AKC. I know the standard is 15, but when you register them as puppies, you have no idea if they are going over 15. For just hunters, a plus size beagle has some advantages. But it also has disadvantages as well.

Yea, if someone was hunting with us and pulled out a walker dog and said it was a rabbit dog, I think I'd leave my dogs in the truck... LOL

i have a 13 inch female beagle and she can run deer good. i think that the smaller ones can go threw thick brush and briars quicker and easier, and they wont make the deer fly threw the woods.
