Hey guys,
We built a 4x6 whelping box and screened it in. It's up about 3' off the ground. The flys are terrible. As soon as you open the door to do anything 100 will fly in. We are keeping it very clean but I think the screen is actually working against us by holding tiny pieces of food and feces that would wash through the wire. We have it guttered so everything goes into a bucket, not on the ground. We've tried fly strips and fly bait. Neither have really helped. Any ideas? The pups are 5 weeks today and we wanted to keep all 10 of them until 8 weeks old but that is looking less likely with the fly issue.
Thanks

troy I'm having the same problem . I've tried a lot of different things but nothing seems to work . I even have some " FLYBAIT " from a chicken grower and it's not working either .

I KNOW THIS SOUNDS STUPID, FILL SOME ZIPLOCK BAGS WITH WATER, PLACE A PENNY IN AND SEAL. HANG AROUND KENNEL. DONT KNOW HOW IT WORKS BUT I SEEN IT AT A RESTAURANT AND THE OWNER SAID IT WORKS GREAT!! Don't work here . All of the bait shops have tried to use them and they still have flies . I was told several years ago they supposedly resembled a hornets nest . I have a friend that works for a chicken company , ( ? ) and he gave me some pinkish looking pellets that look a lot like rice . They use them for fly control in the houses and I haven't seen but maybe 10 dead flies . I have tried vinegar and Dawn . Works for about 2 minutes . The fly trap bags are about all I have had any success with . My nephew and I were just talking about the Fly Predators . Wonder what the long term side effects are ? Another nuisance in the future ? I noticed last year spider webs in the kennel corners . I kept spraying them with bleach and some times with diesel when I used it . DON'T KILL THE SPIDERS ! They WILL eat the flies . We have had a couple of new chicken houses built with in a few miles of us and I think sometimes the wind blows them in . I keep things clean , mowed & burned . But MAN , I got the flies !!!!

In Trinidad WI, we solve this fly problem by brushing Diesel fuel around the external walls and meshing of the structure where the pups are housed. the flies will be gone once they smell that stuff

Sorry the word is Diesel. It is a fuel (pronounced /ˈdi¢°zəl/) in general is any liquid fuel used in diesel engines
