I am a lifelong dog hunter in need of help about one of my lead dogs. Was out hunting the other night we bayed a hog but due to the great amount of rain could not catch it. My lead dog did not come back for a good while when he finally came back he could barley breathe, he had a large lump on his neck just above the cut collar. I gave an antihistamine and he began breathing better, the vet told me not to worry but it has been a couple of days and the lump has not decreased at all. There are no visual signs of a bite or sting, dog acts normal but has softball size lump under his chin... has anyone ever seen this can you help???

Antihistimines MIGHT help, but I'm with your vet, unless it's really soft and you can find the "pocket" in it, I would let the dog resorb the knot. It looks nasty and will take a while but it will happen. Maybe a week or so of good antibiotics to be sure no infection sets up, otherwise, I'd probably leave it be unless he starts acting sore there.

I appreciate the help I had just never seen one do that without a bite mark of some sorts. I'll just keep an eye on it and holler if it gets worse.

Well took dog back to vet... was not a bite of any kind or infection but a cancerous tumor. He will not make it through becaues it is all over him. but he has lived a good life and caught alot of hogs he will sure be missed in my box.

Aw man, I so hate to hear that. It's really bizarre how those tumors can just spring out seemingly out of nowhere. A buddy of mine had to castrate his dog just this past week because of a tumor, wasn't there one day and was the size of an egg the next.
Really sorry to hear about your dog.
