Im pretty sure you do have to have a ham license but like most laws and rules about cb radios they are not enforced, like I also think theres some rules about linears but its not enforced. All my radios ive ever had with high and low bands, the shop i bought it from put them on there after market.

yes just depends on radio. if i were you i would sell it and just buy a radio with channels already in it. (superstar 121, etc. are great cheap radios with channels. and yes regular channels have too much traffic. go to niterunners or joes and he will hook you up doghuntint for life

Super Star radios are good ones. I've had a 360 FM for over 20 yrs. and never had 1 bit of problem with it. Its got uppers, lowers,FM ,AM, and sideband.
Try Copper Electronics. It would be cost efficient to just buy a radio with every thing in it
You only have to have a Ham Lic. if you get down to the I think 25. freqs and below. Back in the 60's CB's were required to have a Lic. through the FCC. I still remember my call DX ... KKP0091
On another note.. Are there any Hams on here ? Thats something I've never gotten but wanted to and still do...

to use upper and lower side band you are not required to have any licenses.. Now if you have a 10 meter radio that is modified to reach the 27 frequency and putting out more than the 4 watt dead key, you are breaking the law.. If you have a regular cb putting out more than 4 watts dead key, you are illegal...
now the chances of getting busted by the FCC is nill unless you are running a large linear and locals complain..
