I have heard about dogs having them but never seen one untill just a few minutes ago.
My little beagle girl Georgia just had 1 and it scared the heck out of me . SHE HAS NEVER HAD EVEN A BLINK OF THIS BEFORE. She was behind me on the floor and what I thought sounded like her trying to play was her stagering trying to get to me.
I picked her up and her heart was raceing I could feel it she was super stiff all tightened up. I didnt know what to do, I thought she might be choking something caught in her throat,so I pushed my finger down her throat nothing there .
I just held her and talked to her petted her untill she seemed to be alright. She'll be 14 months the 16th of March.
What could have caused this, IT FREAKED ME OUT BIG TIME WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP WITH THIS SHOULD THERE EVER BE ANY MORE...
Thanks, jcross do you have any suggestions anyone PLEASE IM ALL EARS...
I have not ever saw this in any dog I ever raised......

That's a tough one Mr. B, siezures can be caused by so many different things, the 1st 2 that come to mind is 1. epilepsy 2. blood sugar problems. There are some environmental things that can trigger it, nearly like an allergy. A friend of mine recently had a very similar thing, I haven't heard back how the pup is doing, nor what the vet's opinion was.
Did she "fall out" or was she having one of those "bewildered, frantic then scared spitless for no reason" episodes? They do come in different varieties and severities.
If she was in the "out" category, odds are it's epileptic....easily controlled by medicine, used to be reported as genetic, but I think that's been ruled out.

i got 2 dogs that have sezours the vet told me it heridetary and the only thang thank can do for it is give you a shot so when they are having them u give them the shot and it will calm them down the only time mine has them is when they get excited like when i turn them out the will have one ang go right back to huntin but mine will only have 1 sezoure when i turn them out for the first time of the year then there over it. one time my dog had such a bad 1 that it started bleedig through the nose it almost made me want to shoot him because i thought he was suffering. but you did do the right thing by holding her and calming her down thats what i do to mine and they will stop.

Mr.B if she has another one do as advised above . Get her in a calm environment and let her lick on a piece of hard candy , ( sugar cubes work good ) but don't let her have it , she could choke . If she comes out of it pretty fast I would say low blood sugar . If her nose feels warmer than usual , SLOWLY cool her down , ( a damp rag wiped around her belly & back legs ) . Joey Williams had a dog named Snowball and he was bad about it . If he had an intense bay and got hot he would fall out . He used to ask me before he went in the bay arena , " You got some of that candy " ? ;D
