But if she was my dog, I WOULD NOT TAKE THE CHANCE !!!!!!!!!! She might be a good hound, BUT I THINK SHE IS UNFITT TO BREED AGAIN AND BE A MOTHER. my Motto, The best prediction of the future of a dog is to look at its past .... But if it were me I wouldnt chance it, Just me and my thoughts. every one is different...

You never can tell, and old timers say, that's why a female dog will eat her pups. My issue would be more going after other dogs, really.
I agree with Mr. B 100% to figure on the future of the dog, take a close look at the past.

o and she was taking care but then she just ate them do you think there was something wrong with them If you do go ahead and breed them, you can take them away and bottle feed them But a word of caution...... This is VERY time consuming you'll have to feed every three hours round the clock for a good spell. ( WITH OUT FAIL ) I dont know if something was wrong with the pups and dont believe thats what it was. If you had other dogs around them at the time like jcross said that might have been the cause. "You should NEVER have other dogs around momma and pups" If that wasnt the case, The problem lies with the female She just aint got what it takes to be a momma... You will run into this, not offten but it does happen .

I read about this on another site, and some said to feed them liver before she whelps and during nursing. Cooked enough to kill bacteria. They claimed it was because of low iron or something? ??

i had a dog eat her pups about a year ago, there were dogs in the pen next to her, could that maybe be the reason? if so does anybody know why they do it?

I used to be on well water and I remember that iron taste, too. I raised a couple litters and she didn't eat her pups. Maybe it is the stress from the other dogs being too close, but I've seen too many bitches run off dogs that got too close, too. I don't have an answer, other than let her get some age on her and try it in a couple years. I just re read your first post and if she got after that beagle pup, she may be just mean. Keep an eye on her and if she shows aggression again, I would find another dog before I bred her again.

Dont think its her being jealous, I wouldnt trust her now, Let her get a few more years on her. At any rate if you choose to go ahead with breeding her, Dont say you wernt warned first... We are all giveing you sound advice and it seems like you are ignoring it ... You asked and we gave , Cant ask for any better thoughts or advice ..
God Luck if you choose to do it !
