We took the youngsters and a couple oldsters to the bay pen today for a little play time. Here's a couple shots from the day. Magic and Mamba (lunger - the black leopard gyp is a littermate to your pup) - owned by Boogie and Leslie Estes Java and Legend Legend and Legacy Cinder Checkers - this is what you DON'T do at a bay - when you draw a running hog. Hog breaks to run.... Then you stop it....but don't let go. Pig ear sandwich is NOT what we're after this trip. Viper Clutch That's the view from our "window" for today. Beautiful weather and we got to visit with friends and have some fun with the pups. Not much more we can ask for.

We were just out playing today, bulletproof. Actually, we're not going to Earls this year. We've just got a plate full at the moment, the hogs sucked last year so we decided to skip it this year. We've got our Nationals the weekend after and a few dogs sitting in major spots, so that's what I'm concentrating on getting to.

Great pictures Dogs and Hogs doin thier thing..
( Question ) How do they score a dog at a Bay ? Are the dog or dogs scratched if they catch the hog ? Never been to one but would like to see one in person I bet its a lotta fun and fellowship.....

It's pretty simple, we run in 2 different type trials, registered breed specific trials and open trials.
Registered trials you start out with 100 points and deduct from there for mistakes. (3 minute runs) then you get 5 pts for calling your dog out within a specified amount of time or DQ if you CAN'T call your dog out. Open trials you start out with 10 points and deduct .10 for each mistake ie: looping away from the hog, glancing off from the hog, bumping (biting a set up/bayed hog) etc. ANY loss of eye contact is a deduction and if you can't bay a perfect for 5-8 minutes, you're not going to place at the big trials. The open trials are 2 minute runs. There is no call out points in open bays.
If a dog bites and holds for 5 seconds it's DQ'd in either event.

Actually, Mr. B, except for on the reservation it's illegal in Florida. We bay in GA, TX, MS and LA...I think it's also still legal in AL but we don't have a show there.
