I had a dog cut behind her left front leg, a 3 inch skin cut that runs vertical , it was cleaned up and stapled. after 2 days she had gotten all the staples out and the cut was opened up. i been putting liquid bandage on it the last few days but i don't seem to be able to keep it closed. she is licking and keeping it clean, it's not infected just hanging open. i'm giving her antibiotics. what is the best way to close a cut like this. thanks for any help.

in a cut like you talkin bout i use underwood horse medicine twice a day..spray the underwood on the cut then sprinkle it with baking powder, not baking soda , but baking powder..it will heal up quick and not even leave much of a scar ..i've used it for a few yrs now and it works better than anything i've found ..my cousin had a colt that tore a hole in his shoulder that you could stick your fist in and he used the underwood and baking powder and you can hardly tell it now ...i use it on any puncture wounds on my dogs ..it's pretty amazing stuff, cost 23.50 a bottle at the feed store here and it's worth evry penny

The staples needed to be in there at least a week for it to seal off good. On long cuts, a drain is usually a good idea. Use a large rubber band cut "open" to make a flexible flat strap sticking out of both ends of the cut. I'm a big fan of NeoPreDef powder....load the wound up with that after cleaning it before stapling.

The dog pulled the staples out after a couple days, if i restapled it i figured she'd pull them out again. Where do you get the NeoPreDef powder at.

Whats the deal with the rubberband for drainage? Never heard of it. Can anyone give more details?
