I have a walker that 4 days ago I noticed swelling around his eye. I figured he must have stuck something in it while running. The next day the swelling went down and I thought it was ok. Started him on antibiotic and today it split open above his eye. I have looked all around his eye and don't see why it is doing this. Any help would be appreciated

Dog bite maybe? I've seen them do that.

Sounds like it could be an abcess of some sort...the cause could be a ton of different things. Was the swelling all in one spot, on the orbital bone, above the eye, below - both? Have a picture of it? What kind of ground do you hunt in...are there weeds like foxglove and such around that could have burrowed under the skin? That one could be enough different things it could drive you crazy to figure it out without a bit more detail.

Totally off the cuff here, there's really no way to tell without looking at the dog, but just a guess from the description of a couple things coming to mind. As crazy as it sounds, grass seeds (foxglove, dallas grass, wheat, rye) all of those, and more, can get under the skin and burrow, without you seeing it and cause an abcess - keeping it clean and try to flush it with soapy water or betadine solution, something of that sort, plus the antibiotics should help. OR, a bite you didn't see - same thing. Then you can get into other nasties, lol, of course, that I won't even begin to try to guess at here. I had a dog this year that apparently got into something he was allergic to, had a BIG reaction, to the point of a cloudy eye...never did figure out what it was.

since yall on the subject i need some advice with one of mine. Started a dog on penicillin shots last night. She was attacked by a bulldog last week and it seemed to heal up but then swelled up with fluids size of a softball. should i lance it to get the fluids out?

Either lance it or open it with a larger sized needle (and keep it open) to drain would definitely be a good idea. Usually they'll reabsorb on their own barring any further infection but it'll surely clean up better and heal faster if it's opened and won't be as likely to abcess and burst.
