wich are the most frequent wound in hog hunting and how to deal with it?
just learned about chewed chest, lump and liquid inside, to take liquid out and give antibiotics
small cuts should be cleaned but left open to expel dirt
do anyone got any more infos about other wounds and tratments?

small cuts i usually put peroxide and neosporin on them, if theyre bad if not i leave them alone and they heal nice. their ears get torn up and i just leave them alone....

Hog hunting can bring with it a myriad of injuries that requires different levels of treatments. Our bag of "tricks" will all have many different things in them. One thing I like to be sure to keep on hand is Preparation H - you'll likely think I'm totally crazy, but it does wonders on all manners of cuts that may not require vet assistance. Deeper cuts, I'll mix it with either sugar or pickling lime. Feel free to email me and I'll be glad to write out a list of what we try to keep on hand for general First Aid and go through some of the things we've seen happen that didn't look to serious that required a vet. Maybe we can help save you some steps...
As for the vests, I highly recommend either H&H (which is almost impossible to get unless picked up at a baying - I'll be happy to do that and mail to you) or Show N GO Gear - the number is listed in a thread on this board - Joey Williams - he's honest, dependable and WILL send you your merchandise. The vests will save you a fortune in "doctor" bills.

Jcross i was just noticing you like the H&H vests, a buddy of mine was asking if I knew where he could get one a couple weeks ago. Do you have any idea what the price is, the dog is a Plott, but he's got a lot of grit and has a tendency to want to catch.

I think I paid about $40 for my bay vests and $75 or so for the full length catch vests. I use the "tusk tamer" short vests for the bay dogs and the Eliminator with leg flaps for the catch dogs. Now, I've ordered from him at the Uncle Earls bay and DID eventually get my vests but it took a while. I think he's a super nice guy, just a lot going on. The hog foulplay caught last month (by his crazy self!) ship wrecked Nitro's vest, I mean cut it to ribbons, so I reckon we'll be replacing that one since a big part of the chest is cut out of it now. Nitro did end up with some cuts, but NOT what they would have been without the protection of the vest.
Now, I'll probably go with a vest from Joey Williams this time. I'd bought the H&H vests before he started making them. He, too, is a hog hunter, and knows what it takes to protect a dog, plus, I know him personally and he's a super guy. I DO like the H&H vests but figure that the Show N Go vests will be equal quality.

That's about forty-five minutes from Columbus, I knew a Joey about three years ago or so from around there. He had a big white pull behind enclosed trailer, he made coon lights and sold them, all kinds of leashes and collars. Sold cut vests and collars.... It may not be the same guy, it just sounds like him.

I found out the "Joey" I knew, well he's not a "Joey", his name is Chris, Chris Taylor.... so my bad I was thinking wrong. But he is a great guy and he will treat you right in everything he sells.
