I think I have read somewhere, maybe on here- that there is a shot you can give a gyp to have her skip a heat cycle. I have two sisters that are just now two and are set to hit my only extended trip of the season to Apalachicola. They came in last year the first week of January, came back in early July and are set to miss the Apalachicola trip again if they are on time. They are two of our very best hounds. Is there any way to get them off their cycle, the timing is terrible as it's the only non weekend trip I get to take all week. Thanks for any info.

You can give them depo-medrol and it will stop them from coming in BUT, be forewarned that it wreaks havoc for the rest of the dog's life. I have a female dog that was given ONE shot at 9 months old when I was hauling her to hog bays. She came in heat the 1st time at just over 2 years old, she's NEVER come in heat on a normal cycle in her life. She'll be 8 in May. I have bred her and successfully raised pups, but it's not been without it's pitfalls. Personally, I don't do hormone manipulation. From personal experience, it's just not a good idea and costs in the long run...that's not based on one dog....that's just the one dog in this case.
The copper pipe, I've never used but have heard that it works great and I'd tend to think it's much healthier and safer for your dogs.
