I had the plastic ones at my old place, and at the old deer camp we had big wooden ones. My catahoulas I keep separate so don't use them, but they worked pretty good for the hounds. I originally had the metal ones at my old place, the males "marked" and rotted the bottoms in them, so I swapped to plastic, they seemed to hold up better, plus were a little higher sided so they "missed" usually. I did find they work pretty good if you don't let them run out of feed and once the pack order is established....make sure the "low men" get to eat and the bossy ones aren't guarding the feeders, once that's worked out and they're used to it being food there 24/7, they really do seem to eat a little less.

i use a plastic type, they got a lid on them, that seems to keep the water out pretty good, but its also under a piece of plywood, because i have a sheet of plywood covering the corner, i got 2 in my pen

I use the metal ones also. I keep them raised about a foot of the ground to help keep the bottom rot from happening. If I cant secure them of the ground I put a pourous brick under them so the water doesnt get trapped under them. I got feeders that are prob 5 or 6 years old and still going.
