Satin Balls
10 lbs cheap hamburger (high fat %)
1 large box Total cereal (about 12 cups cereal)
1 large box uncooked oatmeal (about 15 cups oats)
10 raw eggs / shells included(crunch them up good)
1 15oz jar wheat germ
10 packages Knox unflavored gelatin
1 and 1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 and 1/4 cup unsulphered molasses
pinch of salt
This is for dogs that are not diabetic, pancreatic or have other digestive or health issues related to high sugar or fat content. This is for healthy dogs that are simply underweight due to lack of sufficient caloric intake.
This is a HUGE recipe, and I make mine in the kitchen sink; and I don't make them into 'balls' I make them into patties; they freeze and thaw much more quickly!
Mix all ingredients thoroughly, shape into patties and place on wax paper lined baking pan; freeze; then store in zip-lock baggies;
Most brood dogs cannot consume sufficient quantities of kibble to maintain their weight when nursing; I hear all the time that 'She's thin because she just had a litter of pups'.... no, she's thin because she's not getting sufficient calories to maintain her own body weight + that of her litter.
Just be sure you mark this as DOG FOOD! so your wife won't fry them for 'burgers' LOL! -- they'd be fine, but would probably taste a little funny
and they are to be fed raw; you can take the 'chill' off in the microwave, but don't 'cook' them.
Feed 1 patty ( about one cup ) for every 20# of dogs weight. preferably twice/three times a day - if she 'should' weigh 60#, she'd get 2 patties three times a day...suppose to be fed raw
