About a week and a half ago Beagleman, JoJo and I went fishing on the Congaree. We came home with a mixed bag. 73 BREAM & SHELLCRACKERS, 7 CATFISH, 1 large mouth BASS (my HAWG, I caught this on my new fly rod, sweet), and 1 60lb pig (my HOG, i grilled this Sunday)..
We were fishing upriver from the landing. It was late in the afternoon when we started hearing some dogs yapping in the area. We didn't think much of it at the time. I was buisy watching turkeys on the sand bar and fishing. With their being a cabin back towards the landing we figured someont must be at the cabin with their dogs. We had seen them there with a lab before. Well, we got ready to head back to the landing. Once we gotaround a bend or two we could see some dogs in the river. With the banks being steep here we wanted to cet a closer look in case we knew whose they were. As we got closer the dogs took off towards the very steep bank. Up it they went. Had somewhere elso to be at that very time.. Looking back where they were at I could see something floating in the water. Figured it was one of the dogs that did't make it, maybe its got on a collar. It was a PIG. It seems the dogs had drowned it. Its snout and ear were the only wounds I could see. The three dogs had been trying to push the pig towards the bank when we scared them away. I am not sure if these were wild dogs, strays or coyotes. Kinda brindle some and kinda air dale . Two were short haired and one was kinda long haired. All three were wet, and none had on collars. I rolled the pig over into the boat and to the landing we went.
The little girl pig cooked up nicely. These pics were taken with a crappy camera, sorry, all I had at the time.
