I saw something intresting in a magazine I subscribe to concerning tracking collars. Although designed for birddogs, they make a dog collar with a GPS that sends information back to a reciever to show exactly where the dog is located. I don't know the cost or range, but it sounds like something worth checking out.

I would not be without tracking collars , we purchased ours back in 2000 ,Everybody put in and we got 13 plus the tracking unit and that cost us about $5,000 aus. Best money we ever spent. If we get some spare money in the kitty this year we'll buy another unit or a scanner . Adam might be able to explain what to do with the scanner as i think he has worked that one out

We didnt have any trackingcollars for our dogs when we had them because we couldnt afford them at the time we just had to hope they stayed with the pack and then ride the roads all night hunting the dogs......... I know its not the best thing in the world but ya gotta do what you gotta do I guess......... Most of the folks in our huntingclub use trackingcollars and they work great and most of the time we catch all of the dogs unless they just dont want to come out......... Takemeasy and have a goodhuntingseason..........-tim

I've been familiar with the radio collars for some time, but the GPS collars would allow you pinpoint exactly where your dogs are. I figured they would be expensive though.

hey bunny, to explain them there kinda like a on-star chip in your car. as of right now there not very markable, because they are so expensive. and they don't have a tracking box made for these collars yet. its you call up the company in they give you the location. so not very markable and way expensive. its kinda like a new type of car never by the first year model because the still have some kinks in it. if your looking for more info let me know i'll try to find some websites. we tried building on and getting a patent on it. but it just became to expensive and not realistic yet.
