we use pit crosses and american crosses too..they are great catch dogs.. as far as trainin him if you know somebody thats got some hogs in a pen take him and try him..he is goin to catch naturally with pit in him usually..if he catches then take him huntin and get him in on a few bays and catches and he will figure it out pretty quick...with the lab in him he mite just have some hunt to him also after he figures out whats goin on

Good deal man, thanks for the great response, ive never been hog huntin but ive been readin up on this site and it sounds like a blast, i'll try and find someone around me who hunts i think i know 1 guy who does. If this mutt i got will catch that'll be great then i can start workin on gettin some bay dogs, we got hogs on my club but you dont see em everyday, If anyone knows anybody with a hog pen around Tuscaloosa , AL who would let me try out my dog i would appreciate it

Got a 1/2 american 1/2 lab I hunt with, excellent jump and short range dog. He usually bays until the catch dogs arrive,then he catches. U have to use a break stick on him.

its a flat tapered stick,usually made of oak or nylon or such that you put in between the bulldogs gums at the back of his mouth when he is locked on a hog and you twist it to open his jaws

yeah, i got to thinkin about it after i wrote that response. I heard of folks using them. I havent seen one used tho on alot of these videos i see guys just pullin and kickin dogs off the pig

with a break stick your less likely to jerk teeth outta your catch dog and i really dont like kickin and beatin on a dog thats doin what i wanted him to do..a break stick just makes it a whole lot easier
