With stalking ,or still hunting i find that quality optics are essential. We go to South Australia sometimes and you need to be able see what the head is like before movng in on the animal. The same applied when i went to NZ hunting tahr. The guide i had in Nz had top gear and it was a lot easier to pick out the animals

well... here in north louisiana the only time you really need good optics is huntin pipelines or big cutovers, my longest still hunting shot is about 125 yards. lol im definately not a high roller hunter, i get what will get me by unless it is for my bow, then i get what i need. lol if i have to i will shoot iron sights on my rifle, but havent had to do that as of yet lol

When we go to South Australia , you can be looking at deer a long way off , you need good binoculars so that you don't waste time moving in on an animal you don't want. When we go sika hunting back in NZ you need a reasonable scope as the light isn't often that good in the bush

We got some big fields around here so it is usually better to atleast use decent optics. We got a big pair of Steiners that ride around in the truck with us for such occasions but my personal preferences in optics lean towards Bushnell and Nikon both make great scopes, binoculars, and rangefinders along with Simmons and BSA if you arnt looking to spend big bucks. I know I had a BSA Classic 4x32 Scope on my 30-30 last season and I loved that thing man. It was one sweat scope for 30bucks. It was just as clear as anything Ive ever looked through for way less money and worked just right for my 30-30marlin. This year I will be shooting a Remington 30-06 with Simmons 3-9x50 so I took the scope off the 30-30 for doggin.-tim

I am in big farm country as well as heavy timber, good optics are a must. Nikon, and bruton for glassing, and for rifle scopes, I like the leupold or burris both very good quality scopes that can handle heavy recoil time and time again, as well as good clarity.
