One of my dogs has early stages of the Mange... right now I am trying a home remedy, if that does not prevail I may have to take him to the vet.. $$$$$$
When your dogs get mange what do y'all do?
I will try to post pics so you can get a better look....

Are you sure it's the mange?Could it be that you chaged dog foods or too high of protein ?Both can cause spots.Could it be hot spots?

Feed is Purina dog chow.. Bedding is straw. If it does not start to clear up in the next cpl of days I may have to take him down to the vet....

Looks like they are allergic to the straw. Try changing to cedar shavings and treat with bag balm.Should clear up in a couple days.

It doesn't look like mange to me either. I'd definitely suspect the hay bedding...tons of mites love to congregate there. Another easy topical that could help is Listerine, it helps kill mites and cleanses the skin in case of allergens. (Bag balm: aka Udder Ointment) My favorite is Dr. LeGear's, but it's gotten very hard to find. The cream "cure all" I like to use is Preparation H.

Mange

The vet said it may be sarcoptic mange. Thats where the mites dig into the the skin of the dog and causes major irritation to the skin. Another name is Scabies.. Mange is caused by mites!!! I did not know that I thought it was some kind of bacterial thing of some sort...
Incase you guys have dogs with mange try this recipee out before culling your dog...
50/50 Pine Sol and Pantene Shampoo with conditioner. Bathe dog 2 to 3 times a week, within a few weeks your dog will be rid of them nasty buggers...
I used this recipee before taking Buck to the vet he had no mites but the vet gave me a perscription dip which cost me over $100. If your like me and have multiple dogs that can get right expensive. Also dogs who are on a monthly dose of Ivermec are less likely to contract mange which are caused by mites...
I'll keep you guys posted on Bucks progress....

Ivomec thats all I gotta say about that. Its easy effective and not the least bit messy. Half a cc under the hide once a week for about a month its worked for me for years. Just my two cents.

I use Ivomec on a monthly basis. but give it to my hounds orally..
Question: If I give Ivomec orally once a week at the proper dose of 1/10cc per 10lbs, for Buck that would be .7cc will it have the same effect as giving it under the skin?
I've heard alot of good things about Ivomec with Mange but I am unsure of the proper way to administer for mange...

We always gave it oraly as a wormer. But for mange I was told by my vet to give it under the hide just like you would a puppy shot. He told me 1/2 cc once a week for a month.

Buck is all better now... I don't think buck had the mange after all.. When I took him to the vet when I brought him home from the camp.. He was not doing to well... The vet gave me some antibiotics to help him along.. The medication help but we think that he was alergic to the meds we gave him.. Which caused the skin irritation... Buck is back to health and looks very good... He will be ready for 2008 2009 hunting season... I will try to post some after pics of my buddy buck soon....... Thanks for the help guys....
