You guys got any tips on how to bring females into heat? Isn't there a injection from the vet to bring a gyp into heat quicker?

There are some hormone injections that will bring them into heat, among other things. The only thing I can say though, anytime you do any sort of hormone manipulation, you are running a risk of problems now and escalating them for later.

This may sound crazy, but here it goes.Few years ago me and a guy had a foxhound that was quick,I mean quick,we wanted pups out of her bad.She had been in before, but it had been a while back.I went and talked to an old-school foxhunter that had been running hounds longer than I had been alive.I ask him if they was anything we could do.He said to run here hard one night, when we caught up take her to a new location, give her a shot of B-12,and put her in a lot where the sun would shine on her most of the day.We ran on Fri nite,I brought her home with me,gave her a shot of B-12,put her in the sunny lot,on Monday of the next week she started in!! I am not telling you to do this,I'm just saying it worked for us.Hope this hlps

I am not telling anyone to do this because I would not do it myself but I will tell you what an old time fox hunter told me. He said that if you take a lit cigerette and touch it real quick to the tip of the vaginal opening it would make one come in heat. He said that the female dog will lick it. He said that the stimulation of her licking the small burn would bring her in. I saw the post by rodman and figured what the heck I'll post a crazy one also. lol

I have always heard u could pen her with another gyp in heat and it would bring her in faster. I have used it on some old gyps that wouldn't come in and it worked.

Bryant, clean out your water buckets real good.Put a piece of copper pipe in it.Leave the pipe in for a while and then take it out.Cleaning the bucket real good.Gyps will come in real soon.Leave it in there and they will not come in until you clean it out.

Bunnyseeker, how bout a little more info on the whys & hows...What makes it work? How big a piece, should the pipe be? If you leave the pipe in the bucket indefinitly(except to clean it), will they not ever come in? Will the same technique work for all females, or just gyps?
Thank you, in advance. Jay

I have been told by an Indian friend of mine about this.He use to ride horses in rodeos and has used this for his horses. It will work with dogs. The key to it is to keep the copper pipe in the bucket until you are ready to bring them in.Then take the pipe out of the bucket.Clean it real good(I usually bleach mine ) and the gypys will be in shortly.AS far as the lenght,I use a pipe about 2 ft in mine.Just be prepared if some else waters the dogs and cleans out the the buckets. You will have an unexpected litter coming.LOL
