For the last 4 years I have been feeding 21% River Run and it has always done my dogs good. They looked good and acted good in the field.
But here for the last couple months I have noticed a weight decrease in all of them. I feed each the same amount except the puppys they get fed twice a day. But even they seem not to be putting on weight. I keep all my dogs wormed regularly and dont skimp on that.
Today I had to buy feed and while I was there thier was a factory Rep. from River Run. I asked him if they have changed the ingreedients and he said no . But somthing has changed in it wheather they are adding more of one thing and skimping on another I dont positivley know.
My feed store just started carrying Black Gold ! I have heard good things about this feed. Its 25.00 for a 50 pound bag... Ouch !!!!! But if it will keep my dogs up the way Im use to having them I will try it ........
Has any of you guys used this or use it ? How do you like it ? Any Help appreciated , Good or Bad !!! I have to get my dogs back to what they were !
Thanks Mr B

mr.b- I fed River Run 24/20 for a year, but it has been a while since I have fed it.It always kept my foxhounds up very well.I never had a problem with it.I quit feeding it because of availability.Well, guess what? I just went and picked up 5 bags of RR 24/20 this evening. I will let you know in a week if anything changes with my hounds.I run them weekly,so I should know quick.

Something is going on although I cant pin point it except to say the feed, They act good , dont seem slugish ... But the weight is dropping off its very Noticable to me any way , Im around them all the time... The Rep. Could not give me any reason for this weight loss. I realy wonder if the fillers used has been increased in this feed and he didnt want to state it at the counter in front of the feed store owner and other customers .

Thanks Mr B Mr B, they rep did not lie to you about the ingredients not changing. They are the same but they are using more fillers and byproducts in it now. That's why he said he did not know why. Had the same thing happen to me when Diamond Dog food was killing all those dogs. Not only did the Rep. lie about their product, the company did also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Diamond could have save thousands of dogs lives if they would have let everyone know early.I WILL NEVER BUY DIAMOND DOG FOOD AGAIN!Cost me two good hounds because of their lies. Black Gold is good food.It will cost you more but you will feed less.Below is something I copied and pated from their Website : "All the folks at Black Gold are hunters and dog owners themselves. Not only is dog food a business, dogs are our way of life. We avidly support efforts to keep the right to hunt with dogs and we are always striving to produce the best possible product at that lowest possible price. We always welcome suggestions from our customers and based upon these suggestions, we continuously try to develop new products to meet our customer’s specific needs." That's says more than any of those other companies. All the others want is your money. Here's a few links for you. www.huntingdoghalloffame.com/black_gold_dog_food.htmwww.blackgolddogfood.com/

Mr.Beagler , Enhance is the best on the market IMO . A friend of mine feeds Diamond and I don't think they look as good as mine. You'll feed half the feed . I have heard good things about River Run but it's not available here.

Thanks for the links and info bunnyseeker I am going to give it a try as soon as the RR is out I have heard alot of good talk about Black Gold and its good to know they are hunters as well not just out to get your money .
Like I stated I have fed R R for four years and never had any problems! untill just the last few months... Im feeding more now then before to them and they are still not putting on the weight like they should be even with the extra feed.

I feed Enhance too, the Hunter's Edge formula, but I don't think it's available everywhere. It's made in Arkansas by Arkat. I think their website is www.Arkat.com. (I'll look it up and repost a link if that's not it) Black Gold is a tried and true feed that I know a lot of hunters and sporting dogsmen that feed with great results. It's available here too, I've just had great luck with the Enhance and like their ingredients a little better. The last several years, a lot of your bigger mills (Purina, Nutrina - makers of PMI and River Run) have started farming out their feed products to other mills that don't "police" their ingredients as well as they once were. That may be what is going on with your feed. It's not actually different ingredients, just probably not quite the standard or grade that it once was. That happened to me when I was feeding PMI about 10 years ago, they swapped mills and my dogs went to pieces on it...the grade of ingredients was lower than it originally was. I like the 24/18 feed, we run our dogs year 'round and the closer balance of protein to fat ratio seems to hold them very well, while not requiring a lot extra to keep them in good shape. I tend to keep my dogs a little heavier than a lot of folks like theirs while working, I don't want "fat" but I definitely don't want skinny.

Thanks jcross The link Arkat.com took me to a computer store I'll do a search on google and see if I can find it... But what you said does make a lot of since especialy if they are farming out to other feed mills that just might be the problem im faceing with my dogs loosing weight. I dont like Fat dogs either, but I also dont like to see a skinny bone showing dog. What is the price y'all are paying for a 50# bad of the Enhance I will see if I can find the link and see if its availible down here in central FL. UPDATED I found it and I can get it over in Mount Dora probably 10-15 miles from me. Here is the Link if anyone else wants to read it It looks good according to what I read. www.arkat.com/enhancehunter.htmlI re-read the ingreedients on the RR good golly they have a LOT of Corn by products in thier feed ( Fillers ) Thanks again jcross and Lunger for the testomony of the Enhance feed !!!!!
