i got a tip from an old timer: fill your pens or runs with #3 or #4 rocks. says it keeps them walking on uneven surfaces and strengthens joints and toughens pads. seems to work. since i did it i havent had a bad foot, pad, anything. my one dog prior to this ran enery pad off every foot. i also use blue kote and sometimes pad heal on them.

Pad kote and Tough pad by Happy Jack, of all people, seems to do a great job. Both are pretty much turpentine based which will toughen the pads. (we used to use turpentine and iodine on soft footed horses and it worked well)

DMSO painted on the swollen joints does a good job too waylow.
An old vet gave me an alcohol/vinegar mixture (1/2 & 1/2) that does great for soreness, swelling and bruising, but it's not nearly as convenient to use. Boil 1 cup vinegar, turn off heat, add 1 cup rubbing alcohol....soak a handtowel, wrap around sore place (after it's cooled just enough to handle) until the towel has completely cooled.

This has worked for me for years. For the sore feet use toughfoot just follow the directions on the bottle, and yes it really does work, or pour a little bit of strait turpentine in a container and set their feet in it all you need is enough to cover their pads. And as for sour muscles Ive always used a mixtur of green rubing alcohol and absorbene junior. If you get the absorbene in the tall skinny bottle with the dobber top you canjust pour it in a spray bottle with the alcohol and spray and rub in works everytime.

Alot of rocks and hard clay here in central NC.Have tried alot of stuff for pads,hoof-flex paste is what I have found to work best.I also think it has alot to do with the breed of dog you are running. Some breeds cruise around here on white flints, some get sore feet riding by the pen in the back of the dog box. Just my opinion

Ken uses hoof heal. Smells awful, but seems to work. Swollen joints are another matter. I know, been typed before, but just one more opinion.
