Well I was giving Ivomec once every 6 weeks, and just found out one of my best dogs has heart worms.I was told if the ivomec wasn't used once a month and the right dose it was a waste of time...

I use ivermectin once a month 1/10 cc Per 10lbs.and always round up on lbs. there's a new oral called promectin by vedco that is made to use as oral not the old injectable. And it is the same price.Check your vet. Then strongid for the pups.every 3 weeks. It seems to work good i have never had a dog get heart worms. But did buy one with them once, got them cured and ran him a long time after that. Greg

I'm a worming fanatic I guess you could say. I use Ivomec monthly (it takes 256 mcg for hw prevention on a 100 lb dog) 1/10 cc per 25 lbs. Strongid C liquid 4 times a year and Synantic liquid (3 days in a row) 3 times a year. An outstanding cow/hog dog died at a very early age (4 years) because I didn't know Ivomec/Strongid wouldn't kill whip worms.
My pups I use Strongid every week starting at 2 weeks til they're 12 weeks, or as long as they're at my place.
It probably sounds a little expensive, but I figure I'd rather feed my dog than worms.

better give him a shout longshot.....ivomec every 3 months will NOT keep heartworms at bay. Ivomec at 1/10cc per 10 lbs will kill a fairly broad spectrum of intestinal worms....for hw prevention, it's monthly (and the 1/10cc per 10 lbs dosage isn't needed) or you're leaving yourself open for pretty big problems.
