I got a question about concrete runs and guess this is as good of a place to post it as any! Do you think they break down a hounds foot (splay the foot) from staying on a hard surface? I have been hearing of hounders using gravel, pea gravel and such in their runs. Do you think that there is a great benefit in gravel, if there is a disadvantage in concrete? What do you think? Chris

I coated mine with a rubberized type coating and have a rubber mat for them to lay on

What type of rubberized coating did you use RidgeRunner? Was your rubber mat, like those used and sold for horse stalls?

I used the garage floor type coating that has the elastic type material in it - I got it at sherwin williams paint store
I built a stoop that the dogs can jump on to go into their boxes and used the horse stall mat on it cut in half

We have concrete and we still have to clip the nails. We had heard the same thing and were anxious to pour the concrete. Course, the fact that Ken does it for a living didn't hurt any! We got the mud for cost and he did the set up and finish. Anyway, we haven't had any problems with their feet. The walker's feet seem to be a little more tender than the B & T and the blue tick though. They have had less problems with tender feet since the concrete though.

Several of our hunting-club members keep their dogs on concrete and I have never heard any ofem complain of splayed feet on their dogs.... As a matter of fact I like their pens so good we are getting ready to build a concrete foor pen of our own to get our dogs out of the dirt.... I am really looking forward to getting it, oughta be great for the dogs and easier cleanup for me........-timrussell........
