Boys my best bobcat and coon hound got sick early last week. Carryed him to the vet , did blood work , put him on antiobits. Blood work came back his amelace enzine is out of wack. He also is haveing kidney stones, and put him into serizers, for a few minutes, a couple of times a day. Now my question on this is if I put him on strong antiobicts it will ruin his nose , cant come to putting him down. The vet told me his condition is not gentic, so he will not pass if of to his offspring. Has anyone had this kind of trouble with a hound and if so what do you do? Gregg

this is just my opinion on what ive seen in my dogs on strong antibotics, I have only seen it make the hunt better, when the dog is feeling sick and is down, sll the antibotics do is make him feel better and there for hunt better, I had a realy good coldtrailer on bear and bobcat get sick, I was from a bears tooth makeing a hole in a hollow bone in the leg(the main bone) the antibotics where over a 150 for 11 days worth after that dose the dogs was better than ever.
Id say pump the meds to him and keep him on the best dog fod yopu can get your hands on and make it taste good, like bacon or hamburger and its grease mixed in with the dog food, make sure to use good dog food, this along with the meds from the vet, is the best you can do for him, at least you can get more pups, but do all you can, the meds wont hurt his nose, keep us up to date on this fine cat hound.

Hey Gregg, I personally have never had this problem with a dog and I have never heard that antibiotics can hurt their nose, but there are many things that I have not heard of. When my hounds are sick and it is something I can diagnose on my own, I have never hesitated to pour the antibiotics to them in shot or pill form. I am with whitedog on this one, go for it! The outcome is only certain when you don't try anything at all. Then you won't be wondering what if, later. Chris

when you take antibiotics they dont make you lose smell, taste or anything so it should be the same with a dog guess
