what do ya'll do for your dogs when the weather gets cold? i put 3 bales of straw in the pens last night and i started feedin them a little heavier so they can put on a little weight. our dog season starts saturday so they will eat a little more and not get all fat on us.
sthere are a few guys in our club that dont do anyhting and they only feed every other day and i dont care for it.
i dont know how ya'll feed and dont let me sound like i know best but the way i see it, i get hungry and i eat every day and i think a dog should eat every day. some of the guys in our club only feed every other day and the guy that my dogs stay at his house feeds every other day and he dont want to feed his every other day so i go over there and feed mine on the days he dont.

Our kennels are about the ground in the middle of a bunch of pines, thus the name. The trees give a lot of break from the wind. We put extra straw in their boxes and feed a little extra. We feed every evening unless they are running that night, then we feed when they get back from the hunt.

I put hay out for them and put fresh hay out every few weeks. And I feed every day year around.I think I work a lot better when I'm not hungry. So it seems to me a dog should hunt better and have more energy when there feed good.I konw I do!

in the winter I pack there houses full of oat straw and I soak there feed in warm water, so they get some water, when it get 30 below zero or colder I load the dogs in the dog box, so they stay warm and let them out a couple times a day to go pp or poop lol speaking of cold its 9 below zero here this morning and I feed the dogs every day year round, I do feed half again more in the winter.

I feed my dogs EVERY day and probobly more than most folks feed theres but I agree we eat everyday so should the dogs, especially during huntingseason when they are working the most....,,,,.... As for the coldweather it is getting in the high 20s here for overnight-lows and my dogs barrels are PACKED with straw and we have a small opening in the barrel for them to get in and out instead of leaving the top of the barrell off, that makes for less wind getting in so the dogs stay warm, I think now that the new pen is up and the dogs aint in the mud no more they are much better off....,,,,....-tim

I use cedar shavings in 55 gallon plastic barrels, it cuts down on bugs and fleas and makes the dogs smell nicer

My doghouses are in front of pines facing the south, the houses are insulated and straw is added on an as needed. In the winter I water and feed 2 times a day, in the warmer months water 2 a day and I feed them in the evening.
