I have a bottle of pad heal I keep with me at all times during the hunting season. I usually give them a couple of sprays each day whenever I catch them especially if the ground is dry. It tends to soften their pads and I haven't had a dog lose a pad since I started doing this. As far as sore muscles go I had a buddy of mine tell me about someting called DMSO. It is supposed to be the real deal. Just rub it on the sore muscles or joints and it blocks the pain. Haven't tried it yet but I will this year.

If the pads are burned I dip them in kerosene and let them dry and put on some stuff called Mushers Secret it will keep the pads soft and the kerosene will help heal and toughen them.
