My female is 14 1/4".
I am tring to breed her with a 14" male. Both are AKC registered. Both will blood trail but my female is just now getting introduced to running deer w/ a pack. She did ok for her first year. Hopefully I can have some good pups in a couple of months.
I am new to this. Is a 14 inch tall and quick enough to run deer with?

Yes,Its common for people to think a deer will run wide open as long as they can hear a dog behind them. And thats just not true!A deer will only move as fast as it has to,to stay ahead of the dogs.I have seen deer stop and wait for walkers to get right on top of them before running again. But I have seen them 15 minutes infront of the dogs to.I guess it just depends on the deer and its mood..lol But I don't think a dog can be to small to run deer. The slower the dog the slower the deer will move..I'm a walker man myself,we have some big blocks where I hunt and the faster you push a deer out the sooner you can have another race. But that is just me, a beagle makes a fine deer dog.And if they will pack together on a rabbit I see no reason why they wouldn't do the same on a deer..

Well I run beagles anywheres from 14 to 17 inches But seems they puch the deer just fine big lots or not.As for the 15 minutes infront of the pack I dont know every time a deer was shot or there was a deer crossing the dogs where with in 100 yards or so but the deer seem to run all over trying to loose them in the swamps up and down the hills to loose them like rabbits do but when they feel the pack closeing they will run strait when pushed harder .Just from what i have seen anyways.

i run fox and coyote in the pens with my beagles, but all of the ones that dont make it as trial dog go to virginia as deer dogs. 90% of them are between 16-17 inches. We can only trial up too a 17 inch beagle. I have sent some 18-19 inch beagles to virginia cause i can not run them in the trials. the guys up there love them better than the walkers. but it is all personal preferrence.

gotta go in them blocks and get the deer boys. lol. cant always hang out near the truck to listen to the cb, sometimes gotta get in there and get that deer and not be afraid of missing something on the cb or getting left behind the race. lol. beagles do a fine job, i have seen deer just barely ahead of beagles and i have seen them two blocks ahead. i dont think the size of the dog neccessarily dictates how far or fast a deer is ahead of a pack of hounds. just my opinion
