It all depends on where you hunt, them beagles wouldn't last 5 min where we hunt they don't like the water,so if you hunt where it is wet(a lot of ponds and swamp)then you might want to leave them beagles to what they are best at running them cotton tails and get you some walkers!!!

They won't run one down here, they can't handle the water!! As far as running a deer up on dry ground they might do alright I've never seen any that did but to each his own. Ill run my walkers as theyu get the job done better than anything else I've ever sen run one or owned in 30 yrs of dog hunting

On a normal year(they would do ok I guess it is dry right now) when the water levels are where they should be in Richloam you can't run a beagle they will go maybe 50ft off the grade and come back. Ya better have some walkers to get the job done.

I agree with popcorn501. Beagles won't pressure a deer good enough in wet conditions to make a buck cross a road as good as walkers. I run beagle/walker crosses and even my smallest female(19-20") falls behind a lot in the swamps when they are full of water. I hunt in north florida also.

i only run walkers but some beagles will run with the big dogs. but dont beleive they eat less. 5 beagles eat more than 7 walkers at my house.

popcorn's got a good point, ive got a nice 13" that will only run deer and 3 beagle harriers 16-18" and 2 trigg hounds, all run only deer dont touch rabbit a couple run red fox but the 13s n 15s cant make it threw a heavy swamp, but the harriers do just fine until they hit a pond they take a while to get threw it but u need a good deer crazy dog to go all the way to the other side and not loose it, but if u put big hounds walkers triggs julys.... on em no matter the terrain weather or huntin conditions they will be able to flat line threw a waist deep heavy swamp all the time and come threw it with a deer at the end unless they catch it first,. atleast wher im from thats how it is. i cut my 13" 10 yr old female and a 7 month old 17"+ harrier pup on a doe n a 1/2 hour later a doe came out the swamp not even 10 yards or less from it. iv never seen a 13" with as good speed n drive as my female i should try to get pups from her but my big dogs do just as good or better as her.
