all i got now is hog dogs and my best one is a bluetick. i have had quite a few blueticks over the years that i ran deer with and really liked them. some of the best deer dogs i ever had were bluetick beagle crosses

One of the best deer dogs I have ever seen was a bluetick. I was thinking about getting a couple bluetick puppies after this hunting season. Cold nose and big mouth- doesn't get any better than that

Judging by the ones I`ve been around they make good deer dogs. Just not enough speed to suit me. No offence meant to any of you blue boys out there of course.

as far as speed it depends on what type of blueticks you have. the ones i have are a little shorter legged and thicker bodied.... they are the slower dogs like you are talkin about. but my dad has 3 gyps and 2 males that will run with a pack of walkers. they are really fast, but of course they wont last as long. about 3 hours and they start fallin behind the walkers.
but where i hunt, those faster dogs sometimes make it harder to kill the deer cause they leave town with it. a pack of beagles is ideal but to me they make it too hard to keep track of the deer cause they are so far behind it.

I was just going by where we hunt. Sometimes it takes several hours before you even get a glimpse of what they are running, so it takes a faster longer houred dog to do stay after a buck and bring him out. The biue dogs and beagles have theyre place I will agree. We used to hunt a place where we had more roads and less land and we hunted beagle, coondog crosses and they worked really well. And I like to fox hunt to so I need a faster dog to keep up wit everybody elses dogs!

I hunt with a guy who owns one, but there is not too many blueticks I see in our club. The dog has a cold nose, big mouth, and can keep up with most of our walkers. I was very impressed with her.
