I would wait till atleast when the weather gets colder, and be sure your next pups has it's shots before coming home. Parvo is a bad thing. We had one pup die a cpl years ago from it, and her sister picked it up also but we were able to catch it before it got the best of her. Plenty of liquids, hand feeding her and getting a vaccine shot saved her life. We had picked these 2 pups up from the pound. that's where they contracted the virus. since then I make sure that every dog I bring home has there first shots. Since then I have had 5 puppies here at the house and all are as healthy as can be. Good luck.

My old place in Wesson had parvo on it when I moved there. I lost an entire litter of 3 week old pups - normally they are protected by the female dog at that age, but it was so prevelent there, it was too tough for "mom" to beat.
What kind of ground are you keeping your dogs on?
I would recommend giving at least a year or only vaccinated dogs for a good while, but also bleach the dickens out of the areas you keep dogs. I don't know that it really helps a lot, but I do believe it helps some.

I never had parvo on my property untill then that said... He told me about a "Air Born" Parvo carried by Feline (cats) to this day.... Any cat I see on or near my Kennels is a goner I will trap them and relocate them .......

I bleached my pens and yard, we think it came from my neighbors who are constantly buying and selling dogs.

Aw man, Ace, that's a tough one to beat. I'd definitely recommend only vaccinated pups with that situation.

We bleached also. We lost two out of a litter and almost lost momma. We got her vac from the feed store. Guess there was something wrong with it or something, cuz she got it at 18 months old. One pup was saved. The vet told us that treated momma that it is the hot weather that kills the virus or freezing the ground. (We get temps in excess of 115 here). He said to bleach the kennels, keep the pups only on concrete and also to use a bleach bath for everyone to step into before they enter the kennels when puppies are present. Said after a year or so, it should be ok, but only vaccinated (after their full series) pups on the dirt.

All dogs should be vaccinated once a year , around March is a good time . Bleach works good , just be sure to remove your dogs from the area being treated , it will burn the dogs feet , ( pads ) and cause them to over heat . Stray dogs in the middle of the night while you are a sleep or off at work will visit you dogs , just keep that in mind . I had an argument with a brother in law about a pup that came from me . Short story , I won the argument . Puppies should be vaccinated at 6,9 & 12 weeks of age to build their immune system . AND at 6 months & 1 year , plus every spring . 7 n 1 shots are cheap insurance . Stay away from puppy breeders & peddlers .

It's use to be recommended: At 6 weeks give the 6in1 shot, 9, 12, and 16 give the 7in1 shot.
Believe it or not the 7in1 doesn't have the Coronavirus in it and the 6in1 doesn't have the Leptospira in it. They both have the Parvovirius in them. I give all puppies the 8in1 all at 6 weeks and on. The new recommendations are the 6in1 at 6 weeks and then the 8in1 from 9 weeks and on. I don't know why but that's the recommendations but my vet told me that 8in1 was okay for beagles at 6 weeks.
PS. Remember to keep it in the frig.

I haven't given my old dogs the parvo shots every year in years (provided that I owned them as youngsters and I know they were properly vaccinated) and I give my pup shots 2 weeks apart rather than 3. The only thing in the shots that they don't get a pretty much permanent protection level from is Lepto and there currently isn't a "Lepto only" shot on the market for dogs and, like Bordetella (kennel cough) they need it every 6 months, which is total overload for the other virus vaccines in the 6, 7 and 8 way shots. Corona virus has been virtually obsolete for YEARS here.
I do believe it is vital that they get their inital series of parvo vaccines and a booster, after that, about every 3 years is sufficient to last them a lifetime for parvo protection. I'm waiting for the day a Lepto only vaccine hits the market, it will be a major turning point in the canine health industry, especially for hunters.

When I was competing in the bay pens I had an old Veterinarian tell me to be on the safe side , ( about $10.00 ) give them a booster every spring . It's an air born virus and you can't tell if a dog has it until it's to late . The county extension office gives them and rabies shots about this time of year for a little of nothing and they keep the records for you . If your dog gets the virus and you watch them die a slow death and then get the vet bill , you'll wish you had spent the $10.00 .

They told me the same thing about the boosters since we had parvo here, especially my old ones!
