my second best dog is acting strange..............shes real slugish and doesnt wanna do much of anything, when you go to see her she still wags her tail. shes drinking water and eating(not as much as she should be tho). ticks are really atracted to her(ive been spraying her and it hasnt done squat). and her nose is bleeding and is very sensitive(she yelps if you touch it). i gave her a penicilin shot, idk if it will do anything but its worth a try. can anyone tell me whats going on!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is my favorite dog, if it dont get anybetter imma carry her to the vet.

HELP!!

Doesn't sound very good from the description, but - total stabbing in the dark here - nose bleeds could be so many different things, but anemia isn't the 1st thing coming to my mind, while low blood count is not good, too thin blood is just as bad or worse at times. Bleeding for no apparent reason can be a sign her blood is too thin and has no where to go, if it starts that internally - there will be major trouble.
It's so hard to give advice blindly when it's so easy to miss the obvious without looking at a dog or having a bigger "back ground" picture.
Here's a couple things, just off the top of my head, that I would try.
IRON - thin blood causes unexplained bleeding - get a bottle of red cell, put her on it....would also help anemia if that's an issue and won't hurt her if neither is an issue.
Get the ticks off - if the spray isn't working - (not sure what you're using) - try something different, the combination of the heat, the ticks, fleas and general distress etc can be fatal on a dog once they start to decline.
Is this the dog that was in the fox pen recently? She was weakened when you got her back, not your fault, just how it worked out.
Sweetened condensed milk - high sugar, high calorie - boost her system - pinch of salt in her water to stimulate more consumption - make sure she's staying hydrated.
And please, back off anything with garlic or cinnamon until you get her bleeding under control. Dogs can have those things in moderation, but they thin the blood, if she's bleeding, she doesn't need that encouraged.
Maybe those few tips will help "pick her up" a little until you can get her to the vet and find out what's wrong and what you can do to help her out.
Oh and, if it's the Bayer product for fleas and ticks you're using, remember, don't dilute it....just take the syringe, draw up 1cc for 10-15 lbs - squirt it directly onto her skin between her shoulder blades and let it dry. You should only have to do that once a month - maybe every 2-3 weeks in badly infested/wet areas, BUT, it's an extremely safe chemical, it's very very hard to overdose a dog on it.
There's lots of houndsmen here that have had dogs for years that also may have some home remedies for run down dogs for "quick fix" pick me ups that will help her out until you can get her looked at. GOOD LUCK!

CDH JCross gave you some good suggestions but like he said its hard to realy diagnose with out seeing her. Beef liver ( Raw ) will pick her blood count up to if you cant get Red cell liquid. Wish you were closer I have a gallon of it.
Is she passing any blood in her stool or urin also ? Or just her nose...
Wish you the best with her ! mr beagler
