I love those run to catch types. No hole blowing beagles here!Don't get me wrong these beagles can't stay with every walker and july but they will leave a lot of them behind and run their share of the front.I just expect more out of my dogs than a lot of people. If the dogs beagles or not can't do the job like it is suppose to be done, they will not stay here.Gave lots away that didn't have the speed like I like one to have.

Well it depends on the area your running bunnyseeker..The part of LA I went to a big hound had room and its more open than what I'm hunting around here..A big hound could really stretch out and put one in the wind.I'm talking about a 6,000 acre unbroken block with no roads to cut the dogs off.Around here we have cut overs that are so thick it makes it hard on a big hound moving threw it.A beagle can move threw it much easier so they can keep up with a big hound in the thick stuff. When the La guys say crossing a field there not talking about fields like were use to.One of the fields Curry showed me where they hunt in LA was 8 miles long and about 3 miles wide...Now a big dog can really stretch out in a 3 mile wide open field..There would be nothing to slow it down for 3 miles. And the wooded areas have enough water to slow the beagle down what the big hound can run or walk threw the beagle would have to swim. Were use to the hills with thick cut over and such, and they have flat ground where you can go 50 miles without seeing a hill..lol And here you can't drive down the road with out seeing a cut over. And the part of LA I was in I only seen one cut over the whole trip. When they cut timber the land is cleared for soy bean or rice fields.Giving them some big open ground.I'm not saying there woods are not thick enough to slow a big hound down but with the water mixed in with the woods it could make it harder on a smaller hound. I didn't understand what it was like till I saw it for my self..The way they dog hunt in that part of LA is totally different from the way we hunt in north MS. and AL. Of course this is just my opinion and thoughts on the subject.

DD,looks like we just need to see those hounds stretch out across the fields down there to make an accurate judgement for ourselves.LOL I agree that it will depend on the terrain on how a dog performs but it also depends on the dogs that are running also. Running everywhere differs some because of terrain, climate and a lot of other factors . JUst thought I would get some interest going with that post. They will just have to head Bama or North Mississippi to see if what we are talking about is for real.LOL

alot depends on terrain, in the thick stuff i agree the beagles will be up front. but after two hours of running they cant hang with the big dogs lol. DD we got some stuff like that around here, but i always seem to get in it when i am coonhunting lol, guess the deer dont like it either, haha.

thick or thin doesn't matter if they come up on a big log or a deep creek, run down there and help them get across! Just kidding, I have to agree that it does depend on terrain sometimes!

I have a pack of 12 beagles that are pretty fast. I doubt they could keep up with the bigger type walkers but they can push a deer pretty good.

I got a beagle as jus my lil companion awhile back. The short kind. Was walkin one day an shot a squirrel. Dog picked it up and ran to the house. Decided to play around and let him trail it. Turns out now whenever we walkin together the sucker tries to trees squirrels and runs a rabbit every now and then. One of the best dogs I've ever owned ha
